Flag Day Ceremony
Lamar Elk's Lodge
Saturday, June 14, 2008, 1:00 pm
We will have a Flag Day Ceremony at the Lodge this Saturday. All Elks, spouses and friends are invited. This ceremony is a requirement of all subordinate Lodges from the Grand Lodge and it is open to the public. The purpose of this ceremony is to honor our country¢s Flag, to celebrate the anniversary of its birth, and to recall the achievements attained beneath its folds. Therefore, it is quite appropriate that such a service should be held by the Order of Elks, an organization that is distinctively American, intensely patriotic and without counterpart.
Please plan to attend; this will be my first time experience at this, however it should be an impressive ceremony and it should only last about thirty minutes. I have put a notice on Cable Channel 3 with the Chamber and also in the club notices of the Democrat. All officers and members who have a part in the ceremony should wear the coat & tie or appropriate dress uniform as we do for initiation. We may another person to participate in the ceremony, the response will be short and we will be reading it. If you are able or willing to participate, please let me know.
Regards to all,
Joe Purinton, ER
Tuesday, June 3rd is our regular Elks meeting night and the State VP, Kenny Kaiser, will be there to visit our Lodge. There will not be an initiation and this is not a "formal visit"; so the officers do not need to wear the coat & tie thing.
Kenny is really a nice down to earth kind of guy and he will have a few things to briefly say at the meeting; however this meeting is not going to be a long one. This will be a casual "get acquainted" type of visit and I would like to encourage all Elks to come out, get acquainted and enjoy the evening.
I am in the process of assimilating the email address & phone numbers of our Elks Lodge membership. Emailing will be a good way of disseminating notices, current events or other Elks Lodge information as deemed appropriate. We are currently working on updating the Lamar Elks website; www.lamarelks.org and hopefully, in the near future, we will have the Lamar Elks newsletter up and going again. We would like to be able to send the newsletter to all members who would wish to receive it by email.
Consequently, I will be asking for more email addresses to be available for this use. If I have acquired your email address and you do not wish me to have it, please let me know and it will be removed from the list. If you know of others not on this list, but would like to be included, please have them to contact me with their information.
I am open to suggestions and/or recommendations concerning our Elks Lodge. There are many people who are already doing a wonderful job in keeping and maintaining our local Lodge the wonderful organization it is. I can not thank them enough for all of the good work that they are doing also for training me, helping steer me straight and perpetuating all of the good work through the various committees.
We are looking forward to making some improvements and hopefully we will have more social events throughout the coming year. We have a great group of people who are good at the things that they do and with our combined efforts we will have more to look forward to in the future.
